How do I use drafts and backups in the UENI Editor?

Learn how to publish drafts, check your draft status, and pin, rename, delete or restore backups in the UENI Editor.

Drafts and Backups let you edit your website safely. Your changes stay in a private draft until you're ready to publish, and you can go back to an earlier version of your site at any time.

Step 1: Open Backups

In the UENI Editor, click Settings, then click Backups.

The first time you open it, a short tutorial explains how the feature works. After the tutorial, you can set up your first draft straight away or choose to do it later.

Warning: Drafts and Backups will eventually be turned on for every website, so setting it up now gets you familiar with it early.

Once you publish your first draft, edit your website as normal. Your changes are saved to your draft until you publish them.

Step 2: Publish from anywhere in the editor

Click the arrow next to Publish in the top right corner of the editor to see these options:

  • Publish changes: makes your draft live and saves a backup of it.

  • View published site: shows what visitors see now, without your unpublished changes.

  • Manage backups: opens your backups from anywhere in the editor.

  • Revert to published version: discards your draft changes and restores your live site, so you can start again from there.

Warning: Reverting discards every change in your current draft. Save it as a backup first if you might need those changes.

Step 3: Check your draft status

An indicator in the top right corner shows whether your changes are live.

Unpublished changes means you've edited your site and those edits aren't live yet.

All changes published means your live website is up to date.

In Settings > Backups, the Current draft panel shows the same thing. A Published label means your draft matches your live site.

A Draft label means you have unpublished changes. Click Save as backup to keep them without going live, or Publish to make them live.

Step 4: Manage your backups

You can store up to 10 backups. When you save a new one after that, the oldest backup that isn't pinned is deleted automatically.

  • Pin: click the pin icon to keep a backup no matter how old it is. It stays until you delete it.

  • Rename: click Rename to give a backup a name you'll recognize later.

  • Delete: click Delete to remove a backup permanently.

Warning: Deleted backups can't be recovered.

Pro tip: Before making big changes to your site, name and pin a backup so you always have a version you trust to return to.

Step 5: Restore a backup

Click Restore next to the backup you want, then choose an option:

  • Restore to draft: loads the backup into the editor so you can keep working on it. Your live site doesn't change until you publish.

  • Restore and publish: makes the backup your live website immediately.

That's it! You can now edit with confidence, knowing a safe copy of your website is always a click away.
