Here's how to set up your UENI mail account on a Huawei phone or tablet, using the built-in Email app.
These steps cover both HarmonyOS (HarmonyOS 4 / HarmonyOS NEXT) and older EMUI versions. Menu labels vary slightly between versions — the values you enter are the same.
Note: Huawei phones released after 2019 (Mate 30 and newer) don't ship with the Gmail app. Use the pre-installed Email app instead — that's what this guide covers.
Before you start, make sure you have:
Your full UENI email address (e.g. [email protected])
Your mailbox password
Step 1: Open the Email app
Open the pre-installed Email app on your Huawei device.
If this is the first email account on the device, you'll go straight to the setup wizard — skip to Step 2.
Otherwise, inside the Email app tap ☰ Menu → Settings → Add account.
(Alternative: Settings → Accounts & sync → Add account → Email on HarmonyOS, or Settings → Users & accounts → Add account → Email on older EMUI.)
Step 2: Choose "Other"
When asked to pick a provider, tap Other. Don't pick Exchange, Google, Outlook or Yahoo — your UENI mail is a standard IMAP account.
Step 3: Enter your email address and password
Type your full UENI email address (e.g. [email protected]) and your mailbox password, then tap Sign in or Next.
Step 4: Choose IMAP
When asked what kind of account this is, select IMAP.
We recommend IMAP over POP3 — it keeps your mail in sync across all your devices.
Step 5: Incoming server settings
The Huawei Email app pre-fills some fields. Replace them with these values:
Username: your full UENI email address (not just the part before the @)
Password: your UENI mailbox password
Server: mail.uenimail.com
Port: 993 for IMAP (or 995 for POP3)
Security type: SSL/TLS
Tap Next.
Step 6: Outgoing server settings
Replace the pre-filled SMTP values with:
SMTP Server: mail.uenimail.com
Port: 465
Security type: SSL/TLS
Require sign-in / Authentication required: On
Username: your full UENI email address
Password: your UENI mailbox password
Tap Next.
Step 7: Account options & name
Pick how often the Email app should check for new mail and whether to enable notifications. Then enter the name you want recipients to see, and tap Done.
Troubleshooting
"Username or password incorrect" / "Authentication failed" — username must be the full email address, not just the prefix before the @.
"Couldn't reach server" / "Cannot connect to mail server" — confirm the server is mail.uenimail.com, port 993, security SSL/TLS. Switch off any VPN and try again.
Incoming works, sending fails — confirm SMTP is port 465 with SSL/TLS, and that Require sign-in is on with the same email/password as incoming.

Done — your UENI mail is now set up on your Huawei device!
